Border Street

Directed by Alexander Ford and originally titled Ulica Granicza, this film is a recreation of the doomed Warsaw Ghetto uprising in which a small but heroic band of Jews, herded into a ghetto by German occupation forces, chose to resist the Nazis rather than face deportation to Auschwitz or Treblinka. Border Street was a prize winner at the Venice Film Festival of 1948, and the New York Times remarked: Border Street is bound to disturb the deep emotions of any audience of perception and good will...an earnest and fiercely sincere film...stirs the imagination. Poland, 1948, B&W, 110 minutes, Polish dialogue, English subtitles.
