In 1997, a unique collection of the earliest-known German military 78rpm shellacks were discovered in the attic of a house in the medieval Eastern German town of Quedlinburg. The rarest insight into German instrumental and bandstand music of WWI, these incredible old shellacks were originally recorded before the spring of 1916 and are representative of the 78 rpm records German officers played on their wind-up gramophones in the trenches. Because the bands played "live" into a large horn onto wax cylinders, some very old faults will still be apparent, a reminder of their true age and rarity!
