Growing Up In America:
The Sixties Then And Now
(Abbie Hoffman)

In 1969 Morley Markson made a film that captured the heart and soul of the 1960's. Called Breathing Together: Revolution of the Electric Family, it showed in their full glory the luminaries of the age: Allen Ginsberg, Timothy Leary, Abbie Hoffman, Fred Hampton, and Jerry Rubin, to name a few. Eighteen years later, Markson tracked down these living legends to see what they were up to and how their perspective of the Sixties may have changed. Asked to look at the footage of their younger selves, they reflect on how much their lives and the times have changed. This new film, in color, was married with the old one, in black & white, creating a cultural time-sandwich that is both entertaining and thought-provoking. USA, 1988, B&W/Color, 90 minutes.
