The Bridge (Die Brücke) (DVD)
One of the most-powerful antiwar films ever made, this award-winning film, based on an autobiographical novel by Manfred Gregor, vividly depicts seven Bavarian schoolboys in the last days of World War 2 and their assignment to defend a strategically useless bridge at the edge of their town. Unknown to them, the plan was to withdraw them and blow up the bridge; however, due to a mishap the boys were not withdrawn, and all but one died defending it. Directed by Bernhard Wicki; music by Hans-Martin Majewski; featuring Volker Bohnet, Fritz Wepper, Michael Hinz, and Cordula Trantow.
