This 1933 British film, starring Conrad Veidt, is based on a novel by Lion Feuchtwanger. The novel is a mostly true story of Suess Oppenheimer, the Jewish tax advisor to Duke Karl Alexander in the 1700's who was publicly executed in Stuttgart. This film inspired Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi Propaganda Minister to influence production of the notorious 1940 anti-Semitic remake of this film. Starring Conrad Veidt, Benita Hume, Directed by Lothar Mendes. Based on the novel by Lion Feuchtwanger.
