"One of the Very Best HJ Features Films Produced"
Junge Adler is a 1944 German feature film directed by Alfred Weidenmann, scripted by Herbert Reinecker and Alfred Weidenmann, and produced by UFA Filmkunst GmbH. Set in wartime Germany, the film follows Theo Brakke, the arrogant son of an aircraft factory director. After a string of irresponsible actions, most notably crashing the car of a restaurant owner—Theo is removed from school by his father and made to apprentice at the family’s aircraft factory. Amidst the apprentice community building bomber canopies, Theo struggles with feelings of superiority and alienation. The camaraderie and discipline among his fellow apprentices eventually lead to Theo learning the value of humility and teamwork, transforming him from an individualist into a committed member of the community. The film employs indirect propaganda, focusing on work ethic and collective spirit while largely avoiding direct reference to the realities of war. Junge Adler premiered on May 24, 1944, and featured future film stars such as Dietmar Schönherr and Hardy Krüger. Its production and release were deeply interwoven with Nazi youth ideology and propaganda goals, making it historically significant as the last major cinema work produced for Hitler Youth audiences during World War 2. Germany, 1944, B&W, 100 minutes, German dialogue with English subtitles.
