Four 'Movement' Films of the Third Reich Book (By William Gillespie)

It has been many decades since a Nazi cinema book in either German or English has been published on any of these films. SA Mann Brand and Hans Westmar are two of the so-called trilogy of NSDAP "Movement" feature films released in 1933, along with Hitlerjunge Quex. William Gillespie, having authored Hitler Youth Quex – A Guide for the English-speaking Reader, has now researched and written lengthy chapters on the remaining two trilogy films. He has then added chapters on two iconic NS documentary films which have not been adequately covered in any English-language Nazi cinema book heretofore, and only in a few German language books written forty-five years ago. This new 166 page book, entitled Four 'Movement' Films of the Third Reich, offers a fresh, unbiased perspective and many illustrations, photos and original source materials overlooked or unknown to the previous authors. Five full-colour posters of the four films are reproduced, the missing script for Bleeding Germany is published for the first time, and the American censorship's cuts from the first three of the book's four films above are examined when those movies were distributed in America prior to Pearl Harbor. This is a fascinating presentation of three classic early Nazi propaganda films, as well as the most iconic documentary on the Hitler Youth ever produced. With 42 images, many in full color.
