Following the 1932 election of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a group of financiers and industrialists, threatened by his New Deal, conceived a plan to either overthrow or control him. A paramilitary organization of disgruntled WWI veterans lead by retired Marine General Smedley D. Butler, a colorful, outspoken champion of veteran's rights, would be their weapon of choice. But after discovering the details of the conspiracy, the horrified general blew the whistle and a Congressional investigation ensued. Leading scholars, historians, and government officials help reveal the details of one of the most bizarre schemes in American history.
